At some point, maybe in a recent update, the die-rolling algorithm that controls the outcome of battles in this Risk-ripoff started to fail.
The games ability to generate random-number die rolls seems to have degraded to the point where completely improbable results occur nearly every turn.
As other reviews have noted, strategically building up and attacking with a superior force should, on the whole, carry a probability of victory. But in this game, at least in the early rounds, it almost always results in a loss, especially when the player is about to seize control of an entire continent (to be fair, the AI-controlled players also seem to suffer this phenomenon).
It seems like someone made some tweaks to try to make the gameplay more interesting, but the time would have been better spent at developing a more robust AI (the AI players are laughably predictable; its sad, and a little annoying, to watch Red evenly distribute its armies across all its territories rather than concentrating on flashpoints like the connection to a neighboring continent).
I used to like and enjoy the game. There are many Risk ripoffs out there, but this one had a colorful, well-designed interface, and seemed to emulate the gameplay pretty effectively. But the latest shortcomings in its code and behavior cast doubts on the value of upgrading or purchasing the other titles in the series.
